| One of the most overlooked aspects of designing a new smile is the level of the gingival tissues. If we use our OTS Blueprint to analyze the tissues, we should have nice even Symmetry on the front teeth. While some people do not show very much gum tissue when they smile. most patients have a normal display of tissue where the gingival borders of the front teeth follow a line created by the upper lip.

Although Chris does not show his gingival tissues when he smiles, we still want to correct the tissue height so that the teeth will have a proper proportion and have the most esthetic look.

By looking at the teeth with the lips out of the way, we can see how the two front teeth are at different levels.

By using our laser and contouring the tissues, we can see the end result is an even appearance and size of all of the teeth. While not critical in this case, imagine if the patient had a normal show of the gum tissues when he smiled. By not evening out the tissues, the case may have been an esthetic failure.
